Suzuki Celerio Testdrive

Written by: Hamidah Ismail,

Suzuki Celerio is among the A segment cars which has created a positive impact in Brunei Darussalam, particularly amongst teenagers with its cute and easy drive especially in the city and campus area.

Celerio is a compact car with high capacity where the rear can fit up to 254 litres more than that of Suzuki Alto.

According to the sole distributor of Suzuki,  Boustead Sendirian Berhad, Celerio is an upgrade of its predecessor, the Suzuki Alto. This is made obvious with the technological specification which leans towards the latest system.

This time around, Suzuki introduced the 3-cylinder engine where 1 litre for the Celerio is enough for a single journey. Celerio does not only look good, but its design is almost sporty and suitable for today's lifestyle.

Regarding the prestigious Celerio, it is powered with a 3-cylinder engine, 1 litre (petrol) with a maximum power of 50 kW (68 ps) at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm torque.

The writer recently tested the Suzuki Celerio on the road starting from the GK Restaurant in Jerudong heading towards Kampung Tungku. Together with other members of the media, the writer was asked to choose between the automatic and the manual transmission Celerio.

It's front is added with chrome grill and a bigger headlight to portray a more dynamic look. At the back meanwhile, the most obvious change is the bigger interior. In terms of its look however, it is not much different from the Alto. An advantage of the Celerio is that it can fit more capacity than the Alto.

Celerio is a very practical car and can be utilised for just about anything, whether its for work, leisure, sports or long drives. The spacious interior really does not reflect the petite looking exterior.

During the test drive, the driver's seat feels comfortable as the shoulder and leg area are made bigger, along with the head area which measured to be about 3 inches to the car top.

Among the standard specification that is marketed in the Sultanate is the air-conditioner, alloy rims, DAB radio, CD tuner, USB and the most important is the dual air bags for the driver and front passenger.

For the automatic transmission, shifting gears is very smooth thanks to the CVT system incorporated in the car. Manual transmission is surely the best choice for its fuel balance and with the manual transmission clutch, drivers will surely feel at ease when shifting through the gears thanks to the responsive and efficient release system.

The 30 minutes drive is very comfortable especially with the view from the driver's seat which makes it easy to see the surrounding. However, even with the door and window tightly shut, the driver can still hear noises from the engine and air. But this doesn't really bother the writer as it can be compensated with its enjoyable drive.

Another interesting fact about this car is that it maximises fuel saving by burning only 4.7 litres for a 100 km journey.

Boustead Sendirian Berhad now offers the Suzuki Celerio in two variations such as the manual and the automatic transmission with the ‘Continuous Variable Transmission’ (CVT) system recently built by Suzuki. This new technology is able to offer a smoother shifting of gears.

So, what are you waiting for, if you desire a car that has style, large capacity, modern, efficient and economical, Celerio is the best choice!
